M-Wards went back to the core business that they started at the turn of the last century — Catalog’s! No need for all that pesky retail space and a Jon or a Jane not showing-up early to put up sale signs.

K-Mart and Sears merged – You will see few retail K-Marts!

JC Penny is doing as well as expected.

The latter two also still have catalog shopping, but will charge for you to get the catalog – refunded after first order.

What are some good restaurants in walking distance of qualcomm stadium?

It’s probably too late and the restaurant will already be full, but there is Oggy’s Pizza. It’s in Fenton Marketplace, about 1/2 mile West of the Stadium on Friars Road.

Most everything else is much farther, but a mile East you have Black Angus, Several decent Mexican Restaurants and some fast food.

It’s a horrible concept that was thought out by the Greeting Card Companies, Florists and Candy Makers to screw us out of as much money, as many times per year as they can!

See after trying to dupe us with Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and any other characters that once we were old enough we stopped believing in — They had to come up with something that we would have to embrace!

LOVE! A great idea! But it doesn’t work in the rest of the animal kingdom! My Dog REALLY likes me! But Love? My Cat? Naw, I’m just the thing that makes heat come from the blankets on the bed. My Ferrets? I am pretty sure I am just the fat log that keeps them from digging in the couch!

AAHHH – you say, I meant people! I Love my Mom! I Love my Family! I even love a Banana Split or a Chocolate Mouse ! But these feelings you are talking about? I am not so sure! I had something like that once in college…. It turned out to be Mono!

I don’t know how to break this to you… possibly None.

If the Canner is able to fire Cans… Then it’s possible none of the cans would want to be canned for fear of being “canned”.

If I were the cans, I would go UNION! So then we would have UCAN! Any time that the Canner wanted to can Cans – there would have to be a union rep watching – making sure that every Can is properly “canned” – !

When all is said and done, productivity will go down, drastically! Benefits will rise, dramatically and the whole operation would be sent to India, where a new riddle will be formed at 60% less cost!

I’m behind Browneyed. All extracts are alcohol based! I am surprised that you didn’t know this.

You may wish to substitute a bit of Apple Juice or a little fresh lemon juice, it will add that little oomph that the rum would’ve added.

I can’t tell you the amount of times we were all talking about something and I blurted out my well thought out answer about something NOT EVEN RELATED! Where are the good Soul Food Restaurants?

Hey Ms. Nita,

One of my favorites, and its not just because of the food – The Owners are GREAT! : MAGNOLIA’S

It’s at Market & Euclid Ave.(In the Marketplace Shopping Center) Southeast San Diego (15 Frwy & 94 Frwy)

In San Diego, it’s as authentic as you are going to get! The prices for some entrees are a little high – this is Southern Cooking! They do have some Soul Dishes (I would call Bessie Johnson or one of her staff if you are looking for something specific – they try to please EVERYONE!)

They are open late most nights – I think that they are closed on Mondays or at least earlier on Sundays.

I know, this is not Chicago Soul Food – But you will leave there needing to wipe the smirk off of everyone else’s face who proclaims that they have Down Home Southern Food!

You won’t be dissapointed!

I’d like to add to that list; Qualcomm, Inc. (5 cafes), Kyocera (1 cafe) and Caterpillar (Gen Dyn) (4 cafes). Automobile Club (1 cafe) Jack in the Box ( 2 cafes — but I think one is actually a Jack in The Box ~~ ).

I am going to through my weight behind Ikea as well, but don’t forget to look at Jerome’s as well as Ashley – Sometimes they are in a bind and can work some deals.

Also, the companies that rent furniture for home sales, on occasion, sell those furnishings – Rarely used, but not new!

I almost forgot — try Kobey’s Swapmeet on Sports Arena Blvd on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. – There is a two for 1 admission coupon in the San Diego Reader.

I noticed that part of your question had to do with “Rental Property” – At $1500 – Look also at the following communities:

Normal Heights

North Park (South Park is better but usually not much available for rent)

Hillcrest (It’s called “Bohemian”, that means Gay, Old and Yuppie)

They are all near the Freeway system.

Also,

Bay Park

College Area

Point Loma/Loma Portal

Ocean Beach

These area’s are not as freeway close, have rentals but parking is usually at a premium.

You also might be able to find a deal in the downtown area (SEE jit’s response on the Craig’s list) – But parking again might be a difficulty.

Cuban Restaurants Please!?

I’ve not found anything like I have found in Los Angeles or Miami. There is a place, however, on Moreno Boulevard – Near the 8 Freeway and just East of the 5 Freeway.

I haven’t been in a few years, It was good (Not Great) and for a San Diego version of something, wasn’t a disappointment.

Near my house in an area called North Park is a restaurant that just opened:

Between University and Lincoln Streets – 4 or 5 blocks East of 30Th.

Like I said, just opened about 5 months ago. I haven’t tried but I have heard decent stuff. Live entertainment near/on weekends.

Hotel Del Coronado (There are 2 restaurants)

1500 Orange Avenue

Coronado, California

There is nothing like Christmas at the Del. They deck the place out and you’ld swear that there was magic in the air. They used to do a set menu or 4 or 5 entree’s on the Holidays. The restaurant has changed to the “1500 ” and the new Executive Chef may have made a few changes.

George’s at the Cove (There are 2 Restaurants)

1250 Prospect Street (In Old La Jolla)

George Hauer and his staff know that any night is special and they always meet the need. This is the place that I take my out of town friends/relatives to when I want them to envy more than my beautiful City!

Hunters Steakhouse (Used to be called Hungry Hunter)

I had friends that used to work here years ago. I was with a friend and the two of use were looking for Thanksgiving Dinner. I called a week before and was told they were booked from 6:00pm forward for the night. I asked about 5:45 and they had an opening. We got there and were brought to the upstairs loft, had attentive service, a Great Meal (I love their tableside Salad Bar) and the prices were incredible! Parking can be a bear — but they do have Valet on holidays (Not-Validated)

2040 Harbor Island Drive – (Across from the Airport)

This is an old standby! You may think that you’ve made a mistake when you walk up to the entrance and notice that there are two signs. 1 is for $11.95 Maine Lobster and the other is for a Free Meal on your Birthday. The appearance of a surfboard near the front door may also scare you! Nothing could be further from the truth! The interior is warm with a beautiful view of the Harbor and some of the city lights. The Holiday menu is fixed with 4 or 5 entree’s but I have always loved everything! The service is superb and I have never felt rushed!

Comments were made that “Don’t Do it!” and “Eat at home!” I have managed and waited tables/bartended at Restaurants and Nightclubs in San Diego since 1988! I have always known that I am working on the Holidays. If I have to be there I want to make money, so I would hope that you, the customers, would want to be there as well.

The restaurants I have listed you would feel at ease in most dress. I would check with the Hotel Del to make sure that the 1500 doesn’t have a dress code. There is a chance that these restaurants will be busy. Relax – don’t be in a hurry — you will have an excellent time at any of the places that I have mentioned.

Whenever possible, I have listed the websites for the listings below.

I ate recently at the Torino’s in Eastlake. For Eastlake – the food was plausible. It’s Olive Garden with better salads and SLIGHTLY better service (Although, the Eastlake location seemed to be pressed to offer much more).

You won’t get sick, but you won’t rave either. After the long trip to Eastlake – I was just happy to not be in traffic!

I am surprised by how few people refuse to use the spell check option in Yahoo Answers. It takes just a second. I think that it is just rude! Any thoughts or ideas?

In Court right now, A restaurant owner is held up while in his car. The robber points a gun to his head (later, a pellet gun) and demands money. The owner has $2,015 (but is able to hide $2,000) — the robber takes him inside restaurant but owner is able to lock robber out. Robber runs away. Owner calls 911, but then gets in car and tracks robber down 4 blocks away. He runs robber over and kills him.

2020…9 Years

Nine years ago we lost James. It’s unbelievable that it’s been that long. Seems like yesterday we were arguing about something stupid on the couch in our living room or playing scrabble or shopping or just hanging out. You are missed.

This is the year that I’d really have loved to see how James would have reacted to everything that’s happening. How would he have coped with Covid and Republicans’ behavior, especially Trump? I wish I knew.

Dobson’s is closed today and the Boat House, your second choice back in 2011, has permanently shuttered. We still remember you and think of you often. Always in our hearts and minds.
