i feel like quiting school?

Favorite Answer:

Robert,

Go with Marty, Tox and IcU!

I like IcU’s the best! She tells it like it is and she is fresh! But Tox and Marty are right on the money too!

Education is a tool ONLY! What would happen if your car broke down and all you had was a screwdriver? Could you fix your car? Don’t go into a career without all the tools that you need. You don’t want to be someplace 5 years from now and have your boss say “Darn, Steve’s leaving us – How am I going to replace him?” You say “Hey Boss, I can do it!” Boss says “Sorry, position requires a degree!” You would then be all pissed at your company because they are going to hire some jerk, just a kid, to boss you around!

Be that Jerk!

If you need to, talk to a counselor and reduce your course load. You’ll be happier if you do.

Good luck!

Why does it seem so hard to get a good paying job?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Andy,

I wish I could offer a catchy answer! They fine folks ahead of me already stated it:

1). Education

2). Start at the bottom and work your way up!

3). Sell Drugs or Become High Priced Gigolo!

Oh, wait, That last one shouldn’t be on there! Andy, we want everything now! With the exception of a lottery winner, everyone else has had to pay dues!

Sorry!

How much tip should you leave at a buffet restaurant?

Hey Strapped,

I would do the same as Steve G has said. Tip them like you would a pizza delivery person (But never less than $1.00 per person.). I don’t understand the whole deduct money if the service is not as quick as it should be because you don’t deduct from the pizza delivery person if you realize that they forgot cheese, after they have left.

If you are really strapped, there is nothing wrong with stacking your plates, or at least making it easy for the busser to get the plates from your table. If you leave a clean table, the busser will appreciate it and you will feel better about not being able to leave anything!

Putting dirty plates on a clean table nearby is just TRASHY ETIQUETTE ! If I am at a buffet and I am looking to sit down, I don’t like Mr. Fart Head deciding my table is for his dirty plates.

If your busser has assisted you by getting a Hi Chair or a Bumper seat, leave them a little more.

Regarding the comment that you don’t tip the busser or the Hostess, While most think that this is untrue, you server in nearly every restaurant tips out everybody from the front to the back of the house!

Regarding the “They would get offended” comment… I am offended that you would think that way. I hope you have a boss that thinks that way.

An offer offered by a friend.?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Apache,

While I tend to like the answers about the part-time jobs and even rated then with a thumbs-up, I have since had second thoughts.

I like the way that you articulate yourself in your description of the events that have unfolded.

I think that you should talk with your friend and tell him/her exactly what you have told us. Ask him/her if they have any ideas. The only way you are going to get through this without having egg on your face and save your friendship is to have this exact same, non-confrontational discussion that you’ve had with us. He/She may not like this talk, but they will respect you for it.

Good Luck, you sound like your heart and your head are in the right place!

I was thinking of going to bartending school. Can a guy make a good second income from bartending?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Matt,

I don’t agree with the bartending school. I bartended for 12 years and from what I have seen, they do a lousy job training you and when they say they have job placement, what they are really saying is:

“Look, I can get you a job at the American Legion Hall or someplace else that nobody wants to work at, but don’t forget to pay me my $500 or you don’t get the referral”

What’s in a rum and coke? See, you are as qualified as I was!

Different bars have different pours and places like TGI Fridays don’t ever hire from outside anyway, and they have their own drink recipes.

Get to know the owners (without being a regular) and get to know the bartenders. That is when you’ll find out about openings. People will tell you to submit an application. In all the years that I have done this, no manager or owner has ever gone back and looked at the submitted applications. I have NEVER filled out an application before getting a job bartending — They’ve always asked me to work for them and then I have filled everything out after the fact.

Yes, you can make a decent living (At the right bar), just keep in mind that you work at most bars either the open or the close shift. Close for most bars is 1-3am. Allow another hour to get out (Stocking and Cleaning) and it’s early in the morning. Many I have known have lost their daytime jobs because of their nighttime gigs bartending. It might work if you can do banquet or Hotel bartending. You are usually done by 10 or 11 at night and rarely have any restocking to do so you are out fairly quickly.

Good luck,

What is ‘Mrs Robinson’ by Simon and Garfunkel about?

Favorite Answer:

Hey David,

October has it mostly right. It is a song. It was written before the movie (The Graduate) and it is about losing the age of innocence in America and the world as well (Vietnam war). Mrs. Robinson, played by Anne Bancroft, seduces Dustin Hoffmans character in the Graduate as a metaphor for that loss of innocence. The song plays at the end of the movie. The song is from their album “These days and other thoughts”. Several songs were featured in the movie.

Hope this helps,

James in San Diego

/\/\/\//\/\/\\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\\/

UPDATE 9-14-06

David,

It wasn’t written for the Graduate! It was written before the film. The films producers liked it so much that they included it in the movie (Even changing the name of the female lead to Mrs. Robinson). I said the song was to express lost innocence. If you review the lyrics, you will see how the idyllic early 60’s turn into the troubled late 60’s. It’s very much about a family hiding a secret, it doesn’t have to be a sexual one, any tabu secret. The reference to prayer and God are hopes that no one ever finds out the secret (Jesus loves you more than you will know..) The song tells how when the secret becomes known that their is the loss of innocence (Where have you gone? Joe DiMaggio…) This isn’t Ayn Rands “Atlas Shrugged”… It’s a simple song that has some lyrics that may not make sense, they are included just to be a song. If you had been born or alive during the 1960’s the song and the movie would make much more sense to you. There was Vietnam and the failed Tiet Offensive, The Cuban Missel Crisis, the deaths of President Kennedy, Senator Kennedy and Martin Luther King, increased legal and illegal drug use, women’s issues, Civil Rights and Gay issues All of this is from 1962-1969.

Spend sometime studying the culture and the headlines from that period of time, the song (and the movie) will make so much more sense to you.

What are the ingredients of a White Russian?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Army Wife,

So far you only have two right answers! What and Irinia! The classic recipe is done, floated (One pour on top of the other — No mixing, No blending)

Glass of Ice

1 Part Vodka

1 Part Kahlua (You can substitute Kamora – I’ve never found anything else close)

Top with Milk or 1/2 and 1/2

It tastes best when you go long on the alcohol and short on the creamery addition! (My opinion)

Do ferrets smell?

Hey Suzanne,

Yup, I have 3, but I am confused, I was under the impression that all Ferrets in the USA had to be descented! Mine are and they only smell when they are spooked. I wash them about once every two months, it seems to be enough — They are very clean themselves! There was a comment regarding their poop/urine.. Yes, like a cat or a dog, if you don’t clean up after them, of course you’ll have a smell.

If you are thinking about adopting, GOOD FOR YOU! I have had four total! I have so much fun with them that I can’t think of how my life would be without them! They make me chase them around the house (the area’s that they are allowed to roam when they are not in their cage) and they make me laugh! Can you think of any other reason to have a pet?

Good Luck!

How did you learn to stand up for your rights?

Hey Mind-go,

In any situation where you have one set of rules and others seem to have their own agenda, things can go awry very quickly.

I have found that the easiest way to avoid this is to simply ask them what it is they think they are doing. My favorite way is to simply ask “Is there a different memo that you are going with for this meeting?” “I must not have gotten it.” Typically they will be kind of flustered and ask Why? Explain to them that you both could get more done by working together on the same problem as opposed to working against each other. You have put them on notice that you think that they are adversarial and will probably do things differently during the next meeting.

If this fails, go above both of you and state your objections to that person. They will be ultimately responsible for the project going forth as planned and will reign in any problem children.

It has worked for me and I hope it works for you!

Hey Folks! I’m an actor and I need a flexible schedule to go on auditions. Any suggestions for a day job?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Quatro,

Well, you’ve got the two most obvious Bartending and Catering. I would include delivery (like Pizza) but the high cost of gas in California may preclude that. Although since you said Los Angeles;

Escort or Massuese (..errr, they refer to them as body rubs.)

Depending on the look or the “options” you can make a few hundred per day/night up to several thousand per weekend. It’s kinda like Gigolo meets hooker. Look in the back of Frontiers or LA Weekly to see the ads.

How can Wal-Mart supercenters can answer to complaints?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Rick,

If it isn’t built yet, then talk to your city manager or council member. They should hold a meeting with the taxpayers to let them know what might happen.

If it is already in the planning stage or being built…. Sorry, you are out of luck.

Once they are open, you can try to complain about any actual traffic/noise or pollution problems to the city departments directly, but since they are such a broad tax base, your complaints may fall on deaf ears.

If you can show that you are being harmed by the WalMart and you can prove these financial loses, you can sue in either Civil (District or Superior) Court or in Small Claims Court for damages. Be forewarned! Those taxes also help support your court system.

Vote the Bast**ards out of office or run yourself next election!

Help required from anyone involved in recruitment / careers advice?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Craig,

A few pointers:

1). Get your resume down to 1 page! You can do this by;

**a: List your High School as name and diploma. Unless you went to a private preparatory school, the employer won’t give a rats butt if you had P.E. or French (your not fluent, right?)

**b: Assoc.College, list Worcester – date – major – degree

**c: Upper College, list U of Sussex – date – major – still attending

**d: Don’t list jobs that you have held for less than 30 days (1 week? Craig, what can you learn in 1 week that is of value)

2). Get your resume unified! Make the positions flow from 1 to another. You have customer contact at 3 places! Highlight that!

3). Develop different resumes! Your backgrounds are so varied. Make one resume that highlights your computer/math skills.

Make one resume that highlights your Customer Service skills.

Make one resume that highlights your Bar/Pizza skills.

By having different versions of the same resume, when you see a job that you like – you can send the appropriate resume.

4). Have you done volunteer work, coached, been in scouting? List these things! They make up your character and they ARE jobs!

I was going to add some things, but I think that once you get your resume down to 1 page send me a message to review and give you any more feedback.

Look up resumes on yahoo or monster to see what a resume should look like. Once you see what your resume looks like through monster or yahoo, it will help you in your layout. Or another idea, submit your information to the monster resume builder, and then view it. You will see what I am talking about.

Good luck,

Let me know if I can be of further assistance!

does anyone know of a good breakfast place in san diego ca?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Ambie,

While I’ve never tried Perry’s Cafe (It’s the restaurant that you see at the intersection of the 5 + 8 that just says “Breakfast” on the roof, but I always see 18 wheel trucks there, so you know that it must be good and cheap.

Favorites I have tried,

Mission – North Park or Mission Beach – Mission Coffee in PB

Broken Yolk – Hhhmmmm. – P.B.

Cafe 222 – Island Ave Downtown

Omelette Factory – Santee

Bread and Cie – Hillcrest (Great Scones)

Crest Cafe – Hillcrest

St. Tropez – 7 Locations – It’s MOSTLY a hit (I’ve had a few ….)

Antique Row Cafe – Normal Heights and Lemon Grove – 7+

Keep in mind that with the exception of Broken Yolk, I have had long waits at most of the other places listed (especially on the weekends – but even before 10am during the week.).

All are inexpensive with Crest Cafe and Mission topping out the lists with $8-10 breakfast at the top. Rest are all about $6-7.

Almost all will have a coupon either in the San Diego Reader or on their website.

If someone mentions “Big Kitchen” and food in the same breath, run as fast as you can – AWAY! I have lived here for 19 years and I have been there three times and found the place dirty and disgusting – but my friends all think it’s the bomb!

how much alcohol is in a shot?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Ji,

These are United States measurements only!

Alcohol content of the liquor will be listed on the bottle. Items that are normally served in a shot form will range from 20% to 75.5% (That will be 40 proof to 151 proof).

As far as the physical content of a shot, that will vary depending on the establishment.

Weight and measures defines a shot as 1 ounce of liquor.

Most bars will serve anywhere from 1.25 to 1.50 ounces per shot. It lets you know that you are getting more than what the state recognizes.

Many mixed drinks will have more than 1.25 ounces of liquor in them. If you order a margarita, let’s say, that will typically have 1.5 to 1.75 ounces of liquor in a 6 ounce glass. Much more for a larger glass.

Hope this information helps,

Is bringing a flashlight into a dimly-lit fine dining establishment considered uncouth?

Hey May ’85,

I too go to restaurants that will dim their lights a little more than I would like in the evening hours.

I have three solutions:

1). I have purchased a small light + magnifying glass combination called the “Magnavision” It’s small enough that I can carry it in my pocket, yet bright enough to see in any situation.

2). I don’t recall the name, but I found a credit card light/magnifying glass that I bought my mom. I wish I had bought two, but I don’t carry a wallet, just credit cards and cash – this would have become scratched if it had not been in a wallet.

3). Many restaurants have a separate menu for older individuals, It is printed in a larger font and usually in bold print. They are very discreet about it and most people sitting in the restaurant will either not know or if they do, will be very jealous that you are one that will actually know what you are ordering!

Uncouth — I consider children in fine dining establishments to be uncouth — But like opinions and a**holes, we all have them — so who cares what others think! Unless they are paying for your meal — Ignore them!

Whatever you need to ensure that you have an enjoyable meal is OK with me (and I am certain — with the restaurant as well!)!

do you think man really did walk on the moon?

Hey One,

Yes, I believe that man did, in 1969 and in later years as well.

While I’d like to believe that the U.S. Government is capable of pulling off a hoax that could last for more than 35 years, I am struck by the fact that it couldn’t pull off evacuating people from Louisiana as well as now, 1 year and billions of dollars later is still no further along than they were 2 months after the hurricanes hit the South.

We were taught growing up that the U.S. government was capable of many things — We now realize that they are no more adept at lying than they are at governing!

Do you have instruction on racking wine?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Jimmy,

The proper way to do this is called “Riddling”. The only way to accomplish this without riddling is to age it in large barrels and to remove the wine from the top into it’s final bottles. I am assuming that you don’t have a large barrel that you are fermenting in. So your only recourse is to Riddle.

When you Riddle, the wine is placed at a 35-45 degree angle and every few days, the wine bottle is turned so that sediments will fall towards the cork. After several weeks of this you will take the bottle out of your riddling rack and freeze the top of the bottle with either liquid nitrogen or liquid CO2. (In the old days it was done slowly in buckets of ice and salt) When the top of the bottle+wine is frozen, the cork is removed – taking with it the sediments, and the wine is re-corked and re-riddled. This is done twice and you then have a sediment free wine. Make sure that your wine will always stay “On cork” for best results.

The only large scale production that is done this way is Domain Chandon and Dom Perignon. All of Chandons White Star and Cuvee’s as well as their high end production are done this way.

How does fruit produce fruit flies?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Hais,

I read with some laughter the answers regarding fruit/eggs and fruit flies.

Rarely do you get fruit flies because of fruit. Flies are Flies. Adult flies will lay their eggs in or near rotting fruit because the adult realizes that this is a good source of food for larvae. Same thing for garbage cans. Small (Baby or Fruit) flies will hang around rotting fruit and rotting garbage because the material is already decomposing and easily digested (mostly its the sugar that they are able to extract – hence the term “fruit flies”)

In the US, we rarely get a “Fruit Fly”. The last time we had an infestation of Fruit Flies, it was during the 1980’s in California. They had an infestation of Mediterranean Fruit flies that could have wiped out the Fruit harvest for decades.

What you are seeing is nothing more than baby common house flies.

Hope that this helped!

who has the best used cars in san diego ca?

Favorite Answer:

Hey ’93,

I’ve bought several cars in San Diego – All used. I had good luck with Jack Harrison Buick in National City – But I think that was mostly due to the fact that I knew the F & I Manager.

I also bought car’s in Pt. Loma and Mission Valley:

Pt. Loma – Place was sold to other dealer.

Mission Valley – Hine – Tried to get me for every last dime I had!

My personal favorite is Auto Trader. You can search for cars (free) before the Trader is published, most have pictures and nearly half are owned by private parties.

Favorite Answer:

My first guess would be to proof-read all of their postings. You never know when a misspell might tick off a customer.

Second, I would think a good variety of items, at good prices, with a “Can Do” attitude. I hate walking into a store and when I ask a question I am told “No, I don’t think so,” (Especially when I know that they do carry something like that or have something that will work in its place.) How do you make charcoal?

Favorite Answer:

Hey King,

Stephen P. has it mostly right. When you burn a hard wood a certain amount of resins and sugars “bubble” to the surface of the wood and when the wood cools, these resins/sugars harden in the top surfaces of the remaining wood. When you re-ignite the cooled wood(Charcoal) you end up with a cleaner and longer burning product that we refer to as Charcoal. If you’ve ever had a fireplace – the things that are black and clink when you’ve cleaned it out were charcoal.

The briquettes that Troy is referring to were invented in the 1930’s and are made by grinding charcoal, adding saw dust and binding them with a non-toxic glue. Years later, Match-light added a combustible fluid to make them easier to light.

Hope this helps,

Chambord is my favorite liquer, and I am a bartender. Any unique drinks/ideas for using this delicious liquid

Favorite Answer:

Hey Wonder,

As a bartender, I like to use it when you would normally use a raspberry in real life.

Kahlua or Godiva + Chambord + anything else (Sweet or Sour)

Champagne + Chambord

Margaritas + Chambord

Daiquiris + Chambord

Coffee + Brandy + Chambord + Cream

Mix with Sugar (4Parts sugar to 1 part Chambord) — let dry and use to rim glasses for things like Margaritas or Kamikaze’s. It’s a nice after taste or even better, use for Lemon Drops or Appletinis.

Use it to make Old Fashioneds, Manhattans or Rob Roy’s (instead of Cherry Juice or Sweet Vermouth).

Add to Brownies for a nice raspberry taste.

Reduce over a low heat on the stove with a little brown sugar and use as a glaze on steaks!

Put some in your pancake or waffle mix (not alot, it may flare up and if cooked on too high a flame, will burn). What a nice brunch treat. Or even some in your muffin mix – Blueberry/raspberry muffins or even Raspberry and orange!

Put some in a vanilla shake – Hm-mm! A great way to beat the heat and get a little buzz!

I hope these help!

Where can i find info on how to distill alchohl for personal use?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Rebl,

In the US they don’t make the “kit” as was mentioned, that is why you see the “chemistry class” set-up that they had in M*A*S*H.

And the reason….

It’s illegal to make your own distilled alcohol in the US. It’s called bootlegging. It’s like growing your own pot. You can claim it is for personal use, but the Feds don’t care. They are afraid that you’ll start making your own and put Seagrams out of business.

Beer and Wine are not distilled, so make your little arms go like mad to make it yourself.

If you want to know how to make a still, plans are available on the INTERNET or as simple as going to your LOCAL LIBRARY. The still was considered one of the best inventions of the 19th century.

How to become a tax prepaper?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Sonia,

Like the last two said, H & R Block and Jackson Hewitt both offer classes, however, depending on the area, you may have to pay to attend the classes. Since you are in Las Vegas, and it’s growing so much, you WILL have to pay for the class. It’s not much, about $100.00 for the beginners class. The GOOD NEWS! If you get employed by them, they will refund the class fee and train you for the more advanced class.

It can be good money, but long hours. The classes will start about mid October. Stop by any of their offices and you will see a number for the class registration.

are there jobs for 15 year olds in phoenix?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Manny,

Yup! You’ll have to be in school or emancipated. If you are in school you’ll have to go to a counselor and get enrolled in Work Program. If you are emancipated, bring your paperwork with you when you apply. If Work Program, you’ll not be able to work more than your state allows (I think it’s 20 hours during the week) and you can’t work past 10pm. Weekends you’re allowed until 11:00pm.

Keep your grades up and work hard!

My first job was at 14 1/2 and I loved it! It’s good to have money that you don’t have to borrow from your parents!

Jobs Available:

Fast Food

Retail – includes, Home Improvement, Nursery (Plants, not kids), Furniture Stores, Retail (Look at the smaller places, like for stocking), Flyer distribution and don’t forget Sign Twirler (That money’s real good!)

Auto Parts (If you know about cars and trucks)

Some Delivery (Pizza, probably not. But Groceries, yes!)

Ask at the places that your folks and family shop at! They will be most willing to hire you because they know that you’ll want your family to be proud!

How do I get a low interest small business loan?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Linn,

I would follow Sandi’s advice, but I would also like to add that there are many specialized loan programs (Female only, Minority, Job Retraining, Disability) that either your SBA or even your local bank will be aware of.

Keep in mind that most SBA loans are meant for doing good in the community, meaning that you will be employing local workers. Most SBA loans are not meant for personal enrichment – meaning that in your business plan, you must show how many local people you will be hiring.

OR

Go to your local library and ask for a research librarian. He/She will be able to show you programs that are available in your city.

Favorite Answer:

I am assuming that you mean S.D.S.U. area and not U.C.S.D. or U.S.D. or San Marcos or Point Loma or the two law schools.

I am with jit! North of 8! Also, look into Normal Heights. You are a very quick bus ride away from the center of Campus – No parking hassles and the bus runs until 11:00pm

Stay away from the Montezuma Road area or any area where there are alot of apartments. They always have a ton of Car thefts in those areas.

Even if they do, then you’ll have to get a business license (Starting at $100) at City Hall (202 W. “C” St) – Even if you are doing small arrangements at your home for offices or weddings.

If you are trying for something larger, you are going to need alot of “infrastructure”, like refrigeration, fresh water, signage…. So if you have a decent supply, you may just want to go the Farmers Market way. You’ll still need a City Permit, and you’ll have to pay a space rent – But you sell everything you’ve got and there is no more overhead.

Also, don’t forget, Kobey’s Swap-meet in Sports Arena area. I am pretty sure that you don’t need a city permit, but if you call them they will have the information that you are looking for.

Good Luck!

1500 a month for rent??

Favorite Answer:

Hey Jeffery,

Yes! Look around the area’s off of Nimitz and Rosecrans. Also, try the area around the sports arena as well as places on Midway.

Try not to look in the Reader or In any other publications or services. They have to pay for those and they just add it into the cost. Drive around and look for “For Rent” signs. You’ll find a much better deal.

If you are not in San Diego, try the free ads on the Union-Tribunes website. They seem to be the best as far as price goes.

Good Luck and let me know if I can help!

Can someone tell me how to make hommus? What ingredients?

Hey Kake,

It’s so simple! (And my favorite)

No. 12 can of Garbanzo beans, Drained

2-3 Oz of Fresh Lemon Juice.

Few Cloves of Garlic, peeled.

3-4 oz. of Tahini paste (Also called Sesame paste)

Olive Oil.

Pepper.

(Paprika and Fresh Parsley to garnish.)

In a food processor (You can use a blender, but it will take a long time. You can use a potato masher too).

Blend the Garbanzo beans with 1/2 the lemon juice and 1/2 the tahini paste and an oz or two of olive oil. TASTE. Add the remaining lemon juice, olive oil, tahini and garlic to taste. Top with pepper, blend and taste again.

Top with additional olive oil, paprika sprinkles and parsley.

This is a version from the Food Network:

HUMMUS by Ina Garten:

4 garlic cloves

2 cups canned chickpeas, drained, liquid reserved

1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

1/3 cup tahini (sesame paste)

6 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (2 lemons)

2 tablespoons water or liquid from the chickpeas

8 dashes hot sauce

Turn on the food processor fitted with the steel blade and drop the garlic down the feed tube; process until it’s minced. Add the rest of the ingredients to the food processor and process until the hummus is coarsely pureed. Taste, for seasoning, and serve chilled or at room temperature.

Do you know what this drink is?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Sweetheart,

I think what you meant to put into your question was “Cranberry” before the second Juice word. Everyone keeps on saying that what you have is a screwdriver, I know that you are not so stupid as to not know the name of a screwdriver.

If that is the case, then you have a “Madras”.

If you meant to put the word “Pineapple” before the second Juice word, Then you have a “Bay Breeze”.

Lastly, if you meant to put the word “Grapefruit” before the second Juice word, Then you have a “Sea Breeze”

Please tell all those people that keep on saying “Screwdriver” to back-off!

Hope I helped,

How do I remove a rounded oil pan bolt?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Nate,

I am assuming that you stripped it. Clean it off with degreaser.

Try first to use a Vise-Grip. Sometimes you can get the grips on there and it will come off.

Since it’s a metric bolt – Are you sure that it’s not a hex head on the inside?

Last resort – Tap it out! A tap set is under $10 and you’ll have it out in 10 minutes.

Hope I helped,

Whats the difference between in a FLAN & a QUICHIE, please?

Hey MAO,

Flour and Sugar!

Both are prepared in a custard like manner. They will both have eggs and milk.

Quiche has the addition of Flour (and anything else you want to add)

Flan has the addition of Sugar (As a Caramel) in the bottom of the custard. When baked, the sugar caramel liquefies and that is the “Sauce” that tops the flan.

And as you know, BOTH ARE REALLY GOOD!

Good Eating,

what is franchise?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Aiz,

A Franchise is when you pay a licensing fee to the main company in order for you to open a branch of the same name. It usually means that they will train you in their ways, give you a list of where to get your products from and a basic pricing structure.

Some franchise agreements are very complex (McDonald’s for example) and some are very minimal (An agreement to sell Vienna Hot Dogs at your hot dog stand but still have the sign outside that says Vienna)

Be Careful before your sign any franchise agreement. Talk with other Franchisees (They should give you a list) and make sure a lawyer you trust reviews EVERYTHING!

I need a quick and easy chicken recipe for tonight’s supper. Got suggetstions?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Forgiven,

I have a so simple recipe.

Take chicken and cover with your favorite salsa.

Put in oven for 30-45 minutes at 400 (f)

When chicken pulls apart, serve with warm tortillas or over rice. (Noodles are also a good substitute for rice, but you can buy one of those 90 second microwave rice bags, like spanish or mexican rice).

It’s quick, easy and healthy.

Should I Only Treat This Area (Picture Included)?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Botkins,

I don’t know if it is a Proactiv thing, but I have noticed that if I fail to treat an area that HAS HAD acne, that I then suffer a breakout.

I would use the Scrub on your entire face and any place else that you have seen acne.

I use the Toner on the area’s that I used the Scrub on.

I ONLY then use the repair on the areas that are subject to CURRENT breakouts.

I only use the mask on the oily area’s and the current acne areas.

I am not the best advert. for Proactive. I don’t always use it twice a day and I forget to use the Mask ALL THE TIME!

I also forget to drink the right amount of water nearly every day! (Water is very important — it makes the oil on your face clog less, because your body is able to sweat more fluids because you are replenishing it).

Hope you have luck!

Immunizations and Antibiotics create the super-strains of tomorrow?

Favorite Answer:

Hey,

Immunizations – Mostly – Are of great benefit to Mankind.

Antibiotics and Antibiotic soaps are something else all together.

A pound of dirt a year… We used to get colds and be around things that weren’t always so good for us. It built up our immune systems. Now we are so germ-aphobic that the smallest things will kill us!

I will use as an example – PB&J. When I was growing up, all the kids had Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches. Now it is illegal in most schools to bring them. They haven’t changed Peanuts! They haven’t changed Jelly and they haven’t changed bread! So what happened?

Lack of exposure! Our bodies don’t recognize those items and suddenly, we have allergies! They’re no different then having super strains of germs and bacteria. It’s not that they are so super, it’s the fact that our own immune systems are not strong enough to battle the invaders WITH THE USE OF ANTI-BIOTICS!

I hoe young parents read this and allow their kids to have fun outside and grow healthy without the use of chemicals!

is soda water fattening?

Hey Blue,

Well, No… If you are getting true carbonated water. If you were in a bar and they served you water from their “Gun” — it would be true carbonated water.

However, If you are getting it from a bottle (probably) then take a look at the ingredient listing. If the words Acid or Sodium are listed then the bottle is artificially carbonated and contains SALT! While that is not fattening, the intake of salt can alter the amount of water that your body retains and will add weight.

rachael ray new show?

Hey Ana,

I happen to like Rachael Ray. I have watched her for many years.

The show, which by the way, is not a Food Network pet project, as someone has mentioned, is produced by HARPO. (That would be Oprah Winfrey).

It was a train wreck. Yes, she went way too fast. Yes, I could barely keep up. Yes, She called herself a Chef (She has always said the she is NOT a chef, just a good “fake-out” cook). Yes, she cut herself twice within 10 minutes (Not the most appetizing thing to have on a cooking show)

BUT,

She is well liked, and like anything else that is done with very little rehearsal, should change over time. Whether that change is good or bad, we’ll soon see. I too wish her luck! She has certainly made cooking, for me at least, a lot more enjoyable and much quicker than it used to be.

And she is entertaining!

Horse fly spray?

Favorite Answer:

Hey CJ,

I don’t know where you are writing from.

Here in the United States most tack and feed stores (I have also seen it at Pets Smart) carry a Marigold Extract Spray. It’s safe for Horses and lasts for several days.

I don’t remember the product name, but if you ask about it, they will definitely know what you are talking about.

how to get rid of air pocket from the chocolate produce from a block chocolate moulding machine.?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Charles,

Sorry, I don’t happen to have all that fancy equipment.

But I do have a Washing Machine…

Whenever I make chocolates, small or large molds — as they are setting, I put them on top of my washing machine and set the machine for spin cycle. It vibrates all of the bubbles out!

The bubbles are caused because when your machine (or for poor folks, like me, my spoon) stir the chocolate to keep from burning, bubbles get trapped into the chocolate. They get smaller as the machine (spoon) stir and break the bubbles. The only way to get rid of bubbles is to vibrate.

Someone says that they use a toothpick. Yes, that works for smaller molds, only if you can see the bubbles. If you can’t get a vibrating plate – Maybe you could get a small personal vibrating pad.

That should get rid of all of your bubbles — or you could borrow my washing machine.

Hope this works for you,

James in San Diego
