OK, who makes the best Carne Asada burrito in San Diego?
Hey PadFan,
My favorite used to be the old Roberto’s on Washington Street at Fifth Avenue. It’s now a Los Ponchos. My second was the Old Roberto’s on El Cajon Blvd, Near Little Caesars/Chicken Pie shop in North Park. It’s now Royberto’s but the food seems to be the same

2000 s-10 chevy, the ac blows cold for less than a minute, then blows luke warm to hot, what could be wrong?
Hey 78,
My best educated guess is that the last time freon was filled, the system was not evacuated completely. If you have had freon in system less than 2 seasons, have your mechanic (or you , if you have the knowledge) capture your freon, then FULLY EVACUATE the system (this is done with either a second capture canister, or can be done with reverse compressor).
Re-fill with your old freon. Your mechanic may be able to test your freon for stability, it’s possible that it is contaminated.
Second guess, possible gauge malfunction. You will find this out when you evacuate the system. You can try the old standard, tap it a few times…. But since you will be evacuating the freon anyway, this is a no-charge check.
Lastly, Check out your tension on the belt to your compressor. It is possible that condenser is not making proper contact, so when you first turn on your A/C the bit of freon near the mouth of compressor cools the air, but if freon doesn’t move through compressor, it will never fully cool system. (You will probably see ice form near the freon inlet on your compressor).
Good luck…. Stay cool!

Anyone know the process of re-opening a case?
Hello Poet,
I am assuming that the District Attorney has decided not to pursue this case and that there are no known possible suspects … (You say “verdict”, but I am assuming that there was no trial. If this is not the case, please send me an e-mail).
The usual ways to re-open a case like this is to:
a). Find evidence that was not considered in the original investigation. The evidence should be “without prejudice”, meaning that it “should” not be used to paint a picture customized to your liking (e.g. Shell location, unless you hire an ammunition expert that will testify that a certain gun and a certain ammo will behave in such a way XX% of the time…) and that the evidence should be timely and relevant ( A diary entry 2 weeks before the death that says “… Joe threatened to blow my head off again today if I didn’t pay him for the crank!”, as opposed to an entry from 10 years ago that says “Joe is gonna kill me if he ever finds out I kissed Mike!”). Lack of new evidence, means that your only recourse is to look at the old evidence.
b). Looking at the old evidence. You say no Gun Shot Residue test was done, do you know if there was evidence that showed burns against the skin or clothes? (Many times a detective will not perform test if they know that a burn pattern ALWAYS will show evidence of a gun position). Was the deceased a long time heroine user (Tolerance; You may be passed out at .020 mgs but a long time user may be functional at .85 or higher…. If someone was trying to kill the deceased, USUALLY at 1.5 or higher they will go into coma and never wake up (Emphasis is on usually)). If you and other witnesses know that deceased was not a long term drug user AND they had no access to guns OR Just got engaged AND … (Fill in the blank with other theory’s) then you have enough evidence to contact the District Attorney.
District Attorney: Their job is to seek justice, Period! Many will argue a case into the ground because of their own personal spin or their ego. The D.A. is also relying on your County Coroner to provide his/her expertise on the matter. Is your coroner also your local Funeral Undertaker? If so, you may have to ask the state board of your state to request a Coroners Inquest. (Be forewarned, the C.I. usually is headed by your local coroner). Ask to meet with the D.A. and present your case in a clear and concise manner. If the D.A. refuses to hear your version of what may have happened, you have three clear options:
1). Contact your State Attorney General, ask to present your evidence and see if they can help in your pursuit.
2). Go to court and sue. You can present your evidence in front of a judge and he or she will decide if there is enough evidence to warrant a re-opening of the case.
3). If there is a chance that the deceased was discriminated against ( Gay, Minority, 3xfelon, won a discrimination case against the town, etc.) then you may have a case for Federal jurisdiction. This is a little harder, you have to prove to the Federal Prosecutor that the decedents civil rights were abused. If you know that this is the case, then contact the United States Attorney in your city/state.
None of these options will be quick. Many of these options may require you to shell out some money for tests or private investigators. In any case, If you believe that nothing could be further from the truth than what the police/coroner and the D.A. have concluded, then you are the jury and need to pursue any and all remedies available to you.
Good luck, and sorrow for your loss.

has anyone else heard about the george w and laura bush sex tape???
Hey K.M.,
Yup, I’ve seen it! It isn’t your Tommy Lee/Pam Anderson type of sex tape…It’s a little bit different…
Starts out with Mrs. B bending over the desk in the oval office. Pres says “Hey Pumpkin, wanna play TX rodeo tonight?” She tells him to meet her upstairs in the residence in 1/2 hour. She then goes and hides in the basement.
1/2 hour passes, Pres goes upstairs and puts in a tape where he describes the “Weapons of Mass Destruction”, followed by a tape of Veep presiding over Board meeting at Haliburton. Pres gets turned on by all the excess of power and 3 minutes later, rubs one off for the history books!
Lucky for him… Carl Rove was there with towel to CLEAN UP HIS MESSES!!!
God, this stuff is worth a million bucks…
At least he keeps us bewildered!

If you put Southern Comfort in the freezer will it freeze?
Hey Chris,
Any alcohol that is 60 proof (35% alcohol content) or greater, will not freeze. Don’t try this with wine, beer, coolers or mixes and if unsure, don’t freeze glass, plastic won’t shatter. Like one of your other fans, I also freeze a lot of my hard liquor (this way I don’t dilute it with too much ice… especially with it being so hot this month!).
Frrreeeze away!

Whats a good type of Champagne?
Hey XXHOHO,
I have several nice Champagne’s here at the house. I have 2 bottles of Dom, A Bottle of Domain Chandon and 1 Bottle of Moet Chandon White Star. I have not had a celebration nice enough to break out these bottles, so they sit in my wine cabinet for a dismal day when I get bored and want to celebrate my boredom.
I have started enjoying three different variations of Champagne Methodoise (made in the style of French Champagne).
1), Prosecco – Gentle Bubbles, light and airy – Italian Sparkling
2). Vouvray – Natural French sparkling wine – not as dry as most Meth. Champ.
3). Thorton Wineries (Temecula, California) – Brut. Small, natural bubbles. Crisp yet light taste.
The first 2 are favorites because they are light and airy and you feel that you can drink them with anything. The 3rd one, because I live in San Diego and it’s usually less than $15.00 per bottle.
Also, retail the top two sell for under $30.00 each. You can get them for a better price and a wine specialty shop.
Hope they tickle your nose!
James
P.S. I notice that Fadi states that you should always get the oldest. Remeber, with wine it goes by color;
White – Keep it young, under 3 years.
Pink – Date a Kid – No more than 5 years.
Red – This is the Oldster in the group. Best when between 5 and 10 years, the darker Burgandys at the long end and the lighter like Merlot at the younger end.
Remember, Wine does not achieve anything once it is bottled. All of the aging and flavoring takes place in the barrels. So if you stumble onto a bottle of 1947 Beaugaulais, it’s probably about the same condition as that box of Peter Vella Red Table wine!
Champagne is never aged, and is rarely stored for any lenght of time in barrels. Once it is bottled, it is put into riddling racks to let the sediments gather at the top of the bottle. Take a champagne wine tour sometime! I found it the best hour I ever spent around wine!

Can you tell me something Random and off the wall?
OK Sonny,
The following inventions have a lot in common:
1). Teflon
2). Post-It-Note’s
3). WD-40
4). The Clapper (Turns light’s on when you make a noise)
5). The Toaster
6). Bar Bath Soap
They were all invented for entirely different uses:
1). Teflon was invented as a way to make torpedo’s glide more on target after entering the water (it didn’t work too well).
2). Post-It-Note’s were originally meant to add medical notes into patients files temporarily, but the sticky didn’t stay stuck. A tackier sticky was used, but it removed ink and paper.
3). WD-40 was invented for the Defense industry to remove water from underwater electronics (WD means; Water Displacement). It was their 40th formula (they now have like 62) and while it works very well, they sell much more for household use (Water Displacement is not a household use.).
4). The Clapper was meant as a cheaper version of a heat sensor/motion detector in Burglar Alarm/Security systems. The problem ended up being that If the microphone was set to high, a pet or even an A/C system would set it off. Set too low, and a burglar would literally have to clap in order to set off the alarm.
5). The Toaster was meant to melt butter or cheese onto muffins or biscuits. Sliced bread wasn’t invented until 20 years after the toaster.
6). Bar Bath Soap. Lye soap was very difficult to use while washing clothes. It was difficult to apply the soap and difficult to carry away once you were done cleaning the laundry you were doing. A bar made it much easier to apply.
Sorry, nothing off the wall :-p Just a little something to make your night go a little faster!

Please!!! who is EDNA? I keep reading her name??? tell me!?
Hey Rania,
I am pretty sure that what you are referring to is the ENDA.
It is constantly bantered around in the press. Almost every time I read it I go dyslexic and read it as EDNA.
If this is what you are asking about, then it stands for:
Employment
Non
Discrimination
Act
It keeps on coming up every year in Congress. Tirelessly supported by Sen. Ted Kennedy (D) Mass., it states that no law shall be adopted that would bar access to any person based on perceived or actual sexual orientation. Of the 14 states that have adopted it, 12 use it as a guide for housing and education. Only 2 stated use it for employment only (California and Florida).
If this is not what you were thinking of, then my vote is with the Dame Edna story above!
Thanks,
James
What should be the real policy of life?
Hey Deepu,
I am not a great philosopher, but I am really stuck on:
Live
and
Let Live!
Can’t get much simpler than that.

Why do non-Christians think what they believe is right?
Sorry Nobodiesinc,
You have a double edged sword. Try the other question….
Why do Christians think what they believe is right?
You are going to throw the Bible in my face… I will just throw pre-bible books right back at you.
Remember, in the Bible, you can own slaves, chattel, and better not shave.
So If you can answer the other question first, then you will have answered your own question!
Glad to help!
James
P.S. I am sorry, you asked, Where do they get off? Well I consider myself a Christian! But I don’t understand your bigotry, so where do I get off? I get off knowing that I question your belief in a concept that you don’t even understand. It’s kind of like you are driving down a dark road, without your lights on, and just hoping that the road keeps on going the way somebody else told you. I get off being there when you crash and burn! Someone’s got to pick your butt up off the road!
Why do so many people simply believe what they are told?
I really can’t believe you!
You just asked a question about Non-Christians not following your way… And then you spout some crap about blindly following!
That is what you are doing!
Do you have any idea where you are coming from? Do you even care what other opinions are? I think not!
I think you are just a rubber stamp that keeps on making copies!
Good luck!

Do you believe that Christ is a man with special characteristics, but still a man and not God?
Hey Paulo,
I am perplexed.
Non-Christians (Jews) tell you that if they believe in Jesus of Nazareth, then they believe that he was a teacher a rabbi. Human in every way, but cut from the same cloth that any religious leader is from.
Scientists say that he might be no more than Buddha, Mohamed, Mother Theresa, Rev. Martin Luther King or the Dali Llama. A very Spiritual teacher with incredible insight and thought processes that transcend logical thought.
Christians (Protestants) say he is the son of God. He is the light and the way. The only way you can get into the afterlife (Heaven) is by accepting him into your heart.
Catholics believe that he is part of the Trinity. By believing in him as the Son of God, the Holy Ghost and in God, the almighty — that this belief alone will get you into the pearly gates.
Atheists think he is no different than Brigham Young (Mormons), L. Ron Hubbard (Scientology), Mary Baker Eddy (Christian Scientist), Jim Jones (People’s Temple – Reaffirmed) or even David Korresh (Branch Dividian). Just a cult leader with a better public relations campaign.
What do I think…. I think we put a ton of trust in what others think.
Thanks,
James
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
Paulo, I am perplexed, again! Why would you quote a book that was written before most people could read? That would be like me performing surgery on your body with a book of the same era. Would you trust a doctor to use a text book from that time to operate on your body or diagnose a disease? Then why quote as factual a book from that same era?
Just a little to think about!
What is the trick to a perfect Mojito?
Hey Cheerio lafs,
I have found the easiest way is not to use a mortar and pestle, but a simple wooden muddle (looks like a small baseball bat). This way you crush the mint with the sugar – IN THE GLASS! There is no need to clean out any other utensils.
Add ice.
Add favorite light colored rum.
I like the brightness of a squeeze of fresh lime. You can’t really tell, but it seems to brighten-up all the flavors!
Happy Drinking!

How do you open a Keg?
Hey Billy,
Those commercial kegs are NOT MEANT TO BE OPENED!
Even if the keg seems empty, there is still allot of gas left in the keg. If you will look at the keg, there is only one way to get into it and that is from the top. Budweiser and other breweries have a special tool that they use to remove the tap at the top.
I have bartended for many years. I wouldn’t even want to try to get one open!
Please be safe!

Does anyone ship scotch to NJ?
Hey Shomeret,
I got to stand behind JeremyBro!
I only must add, Beverages and More; Several locations around Los Angeles.
It’s a 12 year old. Nothing that great! He’ll Von’s and Savon might even carry it!

Is Rachel Rays show made in her kitchen or somewhere else?
Hey Dezzy,
As someone else said, it is in the Food Network studios on Park Avenue in New York, NY. There is this cool farmers style market on the ground floor of the building.
A few interesting notes; Her stove is a 1951 Chambers stove, her knife is a Wustof Santoku (double hollow edge with the Gran Prix handle) and she finally married her sweetheart this past spring; John Cusimano (a literal translation; John Food Man).
She’s the best, isn’t she?
Good Eating,

I’m looking for a 10 qt enamel kettle (pot) with a spout at the bottom of the pot. Its great to make ice tea
Hey Charlette,
10 qt kettle is kinda big for putting in the fridge when you’re done. I think I have an idea for what might work for you. It’s a plastic dispenser with a base. They sell them at any restaurant supply store. They are easy because you will put the desired tea into a coffee maker, brew the same tea bags twice, each time let the tea bags steep in the hot water for several minutes. Place hot tea in dispenser, then after brewed tea cools slightly in the dispenser, add equal amount of ice to taste.
Perfect iced tea every time and the dispenser separates from base and it sits nicely in your fridge!
Enjoy,
James

Which site will help me more about consumer awareness?
Hey Mahe,
I guess I should break my answer into two several parts:
1). For product information (specifications, testing, pricing) you can’t beat “Consumer Reports” add on for electronics “Underwriters Laboratories”.
2). For Consumer Education (As muck as I enjoy the WWW), I really need to suggest a good local research librarian at your library. They will have the most up to date “relevant” information that you need.
3). Friends. They will help whittle down the garbage. I can post on the web that “XYZ Company killed 1200 baby puppies last week!” and suddenly it is now listed somewhere on the web under “XYZ Company” — So much for unbiased reporting. (See also “relevant”, above)

Why do Muslims hate Jews read and give me an opinion about it?
Hey Amateur,
I have read both of the arguments as well as the outline that you have listed above. What I believe is the not coherent portion of your argument is that Husseini was an opportunist at best and trying to carve out his own little bastion of domicile at the least! Most of the politicians of pre-war and post war Europe/Mideast were trying to figure out who was going to grab what (United States, as well).
Your major question can not be answered by any human, with any sense of authority. You could ask the same question and change the words “Muslims” and “Jews” to read “Blacks” and “Koreans”; “Skinny People” and “Fat People” the list can go on and on ad-nauseum. Years ago, the argument used to come up as to why “Christians” hated “Jews”. My Jewish friends and my Christian friends would debate this for hours, throwing biblical scriptures around, purporting to know theology better than the other, basically strutting around like peacocks. Were any of us right? We were in our minds…
Years ago, my mother got into a terrible fight with a next door neighbor. She was so mad she said “One of these days, I am going to sell this house… And when I do, I am going to sell it to a BLACK FAMILY!” Now, that’s a revenge! (well at least 1969, middle America style).
The problem with most “Religious” groups, as I SEE IT –(emphasis is mine!), Is that so many wars go back thousands of years, to a date and time where great umbrage was inflicted! In the U.S. today, we have a religious belief that allowing certain groups to “Marry” will ruin the Sanctity of marriage! (Oh, the Umbrage) — but we have no outcry for outlawing Divorce. In China, the government regularly rounds up dissidents and jails them for speaking out against the current government (Oh, the Umbrage) — but in the U.S. / Europe we are holding many Muslims for speaking out against the current government. In Ethiopia, as well as several other countries of Africa, they are having civil wars that are responsible for “Ethnic Cleansing”, (Oh the Umbrage) — In the United States (1864 – 68) and in U.S.S.R. (1917 – 1925) there were two very large Civil wars, as well as an uprising in Beijing in the late 1990’s, that did basically the same thing.
We don’t try to understand or learn from our IGNORANCE. I have decided, because my brain is bigger than yours, that the color BLUE disgusts me! It just happens to be your favorite color! All of my friends hate the color Blue, and now, SO DO I! I have made an educated guess that the color BLUE must be bad, because history, my friends, my society has all told me to not accept that color! What I need, more than anything else, is to spend some time in a BLUE ROOM!
Years ago, there was a “Nightline” show that was presented as a “Town-hall Meeting” on the problems that were continuing the war between Israel and Palestine. There were several members of the Knesset and the Palestine Authority on the panel. I was so amazed to watch this. Ted Koppel would ask a question, and the men would pound their fists and grab their faces… yelling at each other about how right they were and how wrong the other side was. There were several remarkable differences. Each side had several female members of the governing bodies. When they spoke, they spoke with empathy. When they listened, they listened with earnest at what the opposing party had to say. They saw their jobs as LEARNING how to END the conflict. The men saw their jobs as FINDING how to WIN the conflict!
Until we are able to listen, earnestly….
Until we are able to speak with empathy….
Until we are able to spend time in your room….
Until you are able to spend time in our room…
Until we can stop pounding our fists…
Until we can understand that no one will ever be just like us…
Until we are able to open our Hearts and our Minds…
Until we truly learn how to love…
… There can never be an end to Hatred, whomever or wherever or whatever is involved!
And that, sadly, will probably destroy us all!
Hope my opinion was not to simplistic!
Thanks for your time,
James
Will the 400.000 embryo’s that won’t be used for stem cell research now be trashed as medical waste?
Hey Angel,
Please understand that the Papers and the News programs are in the business of making money and they will spew whatever crap will sell the most papers and the most air time!
His lordship G.W. Bush, vetoed a bill that would have APPROVED federal funding for NEW Stem Cell Research. It didn’t stop the research. In fact, there are still two dozen lines of embryo’s that are already approved and will continue to receive Federal Funding. Sadly, these are basically, “cloned” cells. Nothing more than donor “A”‘s eggs, and donor “B”‘s sperm. So any experiments will have the same result, embryo after embryo. There are currently several states that have started state funding of Stem Cells, sadly, all are in litigation.
But, chin-up! Write your congress, write his lordship, write your governor. Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease! Just learn to be squeakier than the right wing ! (Think ACT-UP meets Cindy Sheehan !).
James
p.s. An Aside to Josh R. Josh, most stem cells used in Embryonic research are what is left over when Mrs. A would like to get pregnant and Mr. A is not able to plant the seed. The Fertility Clinic Extracts 15-30 eggs from Mrs. A, and then tests them for age and viability. They then take samples of Mr. A’s sperm, test them for viability and strength. If both sides work out, then they fertilize all of the harvested eggs and put them in the deep freeze and wait until Mrs. A reaches estrus. When she is ready they implant 1 egg, and so on until she gets pregnant. Leaving the remaining eggs in the deep freeze.
If both sides don’t work out, then they go for donor eggs and sperm. Repeat above steps, store balance in deep freeze.
If Mr. and Mrs. A really don’t want to have all 30 or so kids, they have a little bit of waste to figure out what to do with. There are 30 or so fertilized eggs in the deep freeze, that should probably be sent down the drain, but it’s medical waste, so you should package it or something…. So they put it in the same container with your bad kidney stones, or that abscess you had removed, or that fat you had sucked out this morning. Yup, all of it in the same hole!
B-T-W, not a whole lot of use for aborted babies! See once they’re dead, they’re….er…. well… DEAD! Unless they can figure out a way to freeze them before they are removed from the womb, they are kinda useless, well except for scaring the crap out of someone!
Thanks
Who is the MOST HANDSOME GUY IN THE WoRLD???
Hey HymNs,
I am sorry, I have to list three, in no particular order:
1). My ferret Zorro! since he looks nearly identical to the other two (they’re girlz) he doesn’t know he’s handsome. At 90 times his size, he is still valiant in trying to take me down. He’s happy when he finds a raisin that he dropped earlier in the week.
2). My cat Jello. At 16, he thinks that he is still a kitten and at 26 lbs, he still tries to get up on my chest while I am sleeping thinking that I won’t notice.
3). And of course,
You!
😀
James
P.S. I think I also have to add:
1). Pee-Wee Herman (seem’s to rank same as you)
2). Adam P. (Great picture — Maybe not the most handsome, but worth a second look . :-D)
What is your favorite drink that is set on fire? Do you drink it while it is lit or do you blow it out first?

This time, I have to stay in line with Polyester Fred!

Send us the address as to where to send the cards and flowers.

Does anyone remember the drink “snake eyes” You bought it from the store, it’s not a mixed drink.
Hey Mindy,
Are you sure it was not a copy of a shot that was known as “Snake Bite”? That shot was Yukon Jack + Lime Juice.
It would have had a orange + lime flavor to it!

What do you say about the clash of “ZADINE” in world cup final? Was red card justified and and ban by FIFA?
Hey Handsome Stranger,
As sorry as I am to admit it, Red Card was justified. Ban was just face saving, (For Christ sakes, it was the guy’s last game!), it was a way for the officials to say “BAD BOY!” and not look like they weren’t relishing the continued re-plays in country after country.
I have to look at it this way, let’s pretend that you work (not a big stretch), and let’s say you work very hard, (again, not a big stretch), and let’s say you have this project that you’ve been working on for the last few months and today is the day you present your project to your bosses. ENTER: S’Nardly Nodick!
S’Nardly says that your project is so juvenile, that your sister could pay to suck his left nut and the project would still suck more than she could!
You have two responses:
Head butt him – And probably get fired!
Go to the bosses and say, “You are not going to believe what just happened in the hallway!”, “I personally have never heard such crap from a supposed professional”. – They will investigate and may or may not do anything to S’Nardly–but he’s on another project team and you’re taking a promotion, so you probably will not have any more interactions with him!
Does taking the second option make you a wimp? Yep! but a wimp who still has a job and who knows if he is ever in the same room with S’Nardly again…You’ll definitely let him know that his sister does swallow!
You and I don’t worry about such things… Zidane will have so much money in endorsements for years to come that his employment picture is guaranteed!
I, However, would have loved to be able to put forward a product (Zidane) to endorsers that would have included one final World Cup win! None of that can be changed, now.
Just my opinion!

Why are most bbq places closed on Sundays?
Hey Bran,
When I spent time in the South, the reason that I saw many (Not just bbq joints) places closed on Sundays was that it is the time for family. It may also be that family includes bbq ing at home on Sundays

Shakey’s Pizza & Buffet?
Hey Cecilia,
Shakey’s was a product of a Guy named Ed Sherwood Johnson, straight out of world war 2. The chain grew and grew until it was sold in the early 70’s.
The ones that you see now are mostly old franchisees that stayed open after the eventual purchase by a group of investors from Japan and the far east. They bankrupt the joint and so now you will see a few that are popping back up through a new company founded by James Kim here in California.
The largest concentration of Shakeys is in the Philippines! There are many more scattered around the world. They no longer have a central headquarters and Franchisers are responsible for training their cooks. I haven’t seen the meatballs and gravy for a few years, but most still have the “mojo Potatoes” and in a funny aside, when I met Mr. Kim, I asked him if they would be bringing back their “Bunch O’ Lunch” buffet?
He said, “Oh, Yes!” — “But you are wrong, it is called “Big ole lunch!”.
So you can see, sometimes, things aren’t like the original…

what do you think of the singer usher???
Hey Little Dudet,
I think he is refreshing, talented, doesn’t seem to be stuck on himself, humble, tries not to go heavy on the bling, real and probably as much fun to hang with as your best friend.
I am not a fan of hip hop or rap! I am not a rabid fan! I only see him on occasional shows and performances! When ever I see him, I don’t see the attitude, I feel he is a man who is just happy as spit that he has the talent that he has.
I hope he has a long and successful career!
Happy listening!

p.s. The other day I was flipping through the cable channels and ran a cross a movie from 1998. The movie was “She’s all that!” — I stopped to take a look because they had a scene with a D.J. in it (the D.J. makes several appearances)…
The D.J.’s name….?
Usher Raymond!
Didn’t think he was old enough, huh?
how will u drive a person, who is an enemy of yours, from ur house without his knowledge?
Hey Linza,
I don’t know about this personally, but all of my friends would have the same answer…

Sorry, I know it’s cheesy

I grew up thinking that I was Bi. I liked both equally, but society at the time found same sex attraction to be immoral and in most states, illegal. As time went by, I found myself not having sex with women as much as I was with men (AIDS). Now, I will only have anal/vaginal sex with a lover, no casual things.
But, now, I do consider myself GAY. But I don’t think it is the attraction (Sexual vs. Emotional), I think it is more about who do I want sitting next to me — saying nothing — 30 years from now.
Mostly, I think it doesn’t matter, it’s a label. I think you can be Gay and love an opposite sex (even if it’s a Will & Grace thing) –Or Bi and with the same sex, and develop a crush on a opposite sex.
Do you consider yourself Gay or Bi? You are the only judge/jury on this one.
Hope this helps, a little, at least.
James
P.S. I have to argue with Sandy on this one. Once again it is semantics:
Gay = Homosexual
Bi = Bi-Sexual
So sexual is used in both words, so you can’t follow your words to a logical answer, sorry.

What’s your favorite (under $15) riesling?
Hey Dyson,
Rieslings are great when they are from grapes from a cooler region. I have this preference for grapes and wineries from the Columbia Valley area. That area is between Washington and Oregon states. It is lower than the hills/mountains that a lot of western U.S. states grow grapes in.
My two favorites are Columbia Crest and Oakwood Cellars. They usually retail for less than the $15.00 price that you have listed, and they have other wines that you may not like from other regions (e.g. Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay) but you will probably like them from this area, they’re a little more full body and a little sweeter.
Good Drinking,
James
p.s. I don’t know where you are writing from, but I have found some great deals at a place called Trader Joe’s. Sometimes you get a wine for $4-$6 and even if you don’t like it, who cares!
I have a Waterford 8″ salad bowl. The # on the box is 300-250. I do not know the pattern and can’t find it
Hey Bonded,
You say it is 8″ and has cuts on the top. Have you looked at the Padova? You don’t say that it has any color in it but since you compare it to the Lismore, I am assuming that it is clear.
Have gone to the Waterford site? If you bowl is more than a few seasons back, they won’t have your pattern on their site but you can send an e-mail to their customer service department and they will be happy to help you.
Since you only have one, I am taking an educated guess at this, without seeing it, there is a strong chance that what you have is a Society gift or an Heirloom. These never really are meant to match any particular pattern. They are meant to get people interested in collecting Waterford (the Society Gifts) or as a dazzler for an Event (Heirloom bowls, for instance, are a scene stealer at weddings. It will not match a bride’s china, but you can guarantee that it will be in her china cabinet, just to say “Oh, That? It’s a Waterford!”).
Good hunting!

What’s the best thing to eat at Dave and Buster’s?
Hey Help,
I like the one answer regarding the bar burgers, they are probably one of the few “Bright Spots” on their menu! With the exception of their appetizers, I can say that the best thing to eat at Dave & Buster’s would be…
Your pride! The place is not meant as a culinary hot spot. It’s meant as an adult arcade.
So since you are probably going there for a party or other adult get together, order what’s cheap, nibble, drink and play some games. You can eat at your favorite place tomorrow!

They have a menu at their website. It all may sound good, but its gonna taste like eating at any other busy bar. During busy periods it ain’t gonna be hot and don’t send it back. You’ll be waiting when the check comes!

how do you pick up women in a grocery store?
Hey,
I found this method always works. Drop a $10 on the floor. As she reaches down to pick it up, using your thumb and index finger, stick in and lift her up like a six pack of soda or beer. You can throw her in the cart, and most people will not even notice!
Also, you can try by the ankles, but you better be much taller!

What is the best excuse for pulling a sicky from work?
Hey, It’s Joe!
I can’t be bothered to come to work today, even though tomorrow is the weekend. I am calling in sick, but it really is to spend time looking for another job since I know I’ve called in sick 6 times this year already and I am pretty sure that you are already looking for someone else to replace me.
Hey, at least I’m not Jenna! Remember how she used to call in sick at least once a month and then she really did get sick and you found a legal way to cut her hours and get her to quit, at least I’m not her!
And at least you’re not like that A**hole, Jackson, the boss in the other department. He makes his employees take the time and go to a Doctor and get a note. A**hole makes them lose an entire day by hanging around a Doctors office hoping to score a note so that they don’t have to go in to work that day ( Many employers now do this, it is perfectly legal).
Hey look at the bright side! If you lose your job, you won’t have to be bothered to go to work tonight!

Please help me to understand why anger is such abig part of an alcoholics life, and what I can do as a partner
Dear Errosmadre,
I am an alcoholic male. I am in recovery. He is mad — at himself, at the world, at you, at anyone that he can be mad at. Why? Because life sucks! The world is mean! Work is hard! Bosses are mean! It’s Tuesday! HE DOESN’T NEED AN EXCUSE! What he needs is booze and an enabler. He obviously gets both from you. Yet, still he is angry! You are still trying to figure out what to do so that he is not angry anymore. There is nothing that you can do that will make him happy. So do yourself a huge favor; go to Al-Anon.
Your partner will only get worse! This is not an opinion, it is a fact. He loves booze, it is his only friend! It is the only thing that understands him in his life, the only part of his life that is not judgmental. You don’t understand him, family doesn’t understand him…just the booze!
You say that you want real world experience…. Honey, you are living it! It doesn’t get any more real than what you are living with right now, If he hasn’t started already, eventually he will strike out at you, it may be physical or it may be emotional. (He will tell you to move out because you are prying into his life), (He will monitor who you are talking to and what you are saying for fear that you are talking about him to friends or family).
Please, have no respect for alcohol. It is cunning and resourcefull! I notice that you mention that he “Loves whiskey” but you never mention love about you, ” what can I do as a partner…” You don’t refer to yourself as a lover, a wife, a husband. You can’t save him! Don’t even try!
You can educate yourself. You can go to fellowship with other members who have walked in your boots. You can see through these people that you are being dragged into the abyss that he is living. Only he can decide to stop drinking. You can do nothing! Don’t cope, get help! You are suffering too!
If you are not a religious person, do not worry. I am not a church going Christian nor am I affiliated with any other religion. I know that with me not drinking, my life is better. I know with me not drinking, my family does not have to walk around on tip-toes and I know that when I am mad or angry, it is not the alcohol!
Please look on your search engine for “al-anon, ___________” (your area) and you will see several sites, it’s a free meeting of people just like you… They all have real-world experiences and interactions. And no person will judge you bad for it, because it is not your fault! It is the alcohol, it has clouded his mind. Someone needs to see through the fog, if he will not then you must!
Trust me, it works!

Where can i buy American alcoholic wine coolers in the U.K?
Hey High,
Save yourself the bucks/pounds/lire! Get a favorite sweeter wine; shiraz, sangria, merlot (reds) Rieseling, Chardonnay or Chablis (white), a favorite juice and a bottle of lemon lime soda. Mix equal parts over ice and you have american style wine coolers. Play with the falvors of juice and wine and you will probably make better coolers than they make in the U.S.
Happy drinking!

what alcohol is used to make mikes hard lemonades?
Hey Waterpolo,
My vote is in Katz back seat. As she says, it’s true. Like Zima, Smirnoff Ice and Jack Daniels Lynchburgh Lemonade, Mike’s Hard Lemon and Hard Lime are Malt Liquors and made with similar ingredients to beer, but are distilled like Hard liquor.
Don’t confuse these with items on your store shelves like T.G.I. Fridays mudslides or the can’s of Long Island Ice Tea’s and Blue Hawaiians; those are made from wine bases.
You can tell from the alcohol content and proof. If it is about 20 proof (10% alc. cont.) then it’s wine based. 35-40 proof and you’re talking malt liquors (Mickie’s big mouth and King Cobra are made the same way.
(B-T-W, sales are so bad that Mikes is looking at reformulating their recipes in an attempt to catch more market or dump the whole thing altogether)

Hey Alli,

do barcodes on alcohol bottles keep records of who purchased it?
Hey x,
Of course not! BUT…
I would hate to buy my little underage friend a case of beer or a bottle of booze, have them take it with them, drive out of the parking lot, kill someone and then they see your picture, minutes ago, buying that same case of beer or bottle on the markets surveillance camera’s
OR, not that minors brag to their friends…
Tommy gets into trouble for being drunk in school. Tommy’s Mommy and Daddy swear they are not drinkers and there is no booze at their house. The school threatens to expel Tommy from the 10th grade, unless he tells them who is supplying him with booze.
Tommy doesn’t owe you crap. Tommy knows that you will buy him booze, so he calls you and asks for your help. As always, you feel sorry for the bastard and you go to Piggly -Wiggly to get Tommy his bottle of Cuervo. You drop the bottle off at Tommy’s, he will give you money to pay for the booze, you accept and give him change and walk out of the house.
A cop will walk up to you and shows you his I.D., he will explain that he is attempting to find out what the circumstances were that you brought booze over to Tommy’s… I wouldn’t want that video of my purchase, or the marked bill that I now have in my wallet to be used as evidence in the trial that will screw up my life for the next few years.
I hope Tommy will be able to pay your rent while you are looking for work! (Oh, unless you are in a job that puts you in contact with minors, like day care. Then you have to change fields…).

how much budweiser do u have to buy before they will deliver it to ur house.?
Hey Razor,
Depending on where you live, your local liquor store will probably have a free delivery service. I have several in my hood that are more than happy to deliver any booze that I need, including kegs. Also, depending on your mega-marts (Von’s, Safeway, Albertsons, Dominick’s, etc) usually have some sort of on-line service that will deliver booze for about $5.00 with a minimum purchase.
If you want a delivery directly from A.B. themselves, sorry, like the others said, AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN!

Can anybody taste the difference between Belgium brewed Stella and U.K. brewed Stella?
Hey Hal!
I can’t vouch for water being harder, or brewing being cleaner! I can say that I tried my first Stella from a Belgium brewery about 5 years ago. That was in a glass bottle with an unusual stopper. A few years past and I tried a Stella that was a UK import, on draught. I hated it! It tasted sour and had much larger bubbles in the head than what I had been previously introduced to 5 years before. I thought that I had selected the wrong beverage. I went back to the bar that had served me the first few Stella’s and told the bartender that I had made a mistake and thought I had ordered a Stella there, but that others in years forward had not tasted the same. He brought out the bottle with the weird stopper and drew one for me. That silky, small bubbled head, that creamy finish, that beautiful carmel color! So what was I drinking at the other bar’s here in the U.S.? I asked him….
The Stella I was drinking those first few times was a Stella from Belgium. It has been traditionally been made by Monks, working in smaller batches, with more localized ingredients. The canned and Draught Stella’s from the U.K. are usually farmed out to the larger breweries (like Lowenbrau, when they have extra capacity on their line, they will run some custom stuff for brew houses that don’t have the capacity), and in an effort to keep cost low, they may end up purchasing the raw products needed from the breweries, since a hop is a hop (?).
So that’s what my bartender tells me. He says that the best way to tell is the following:
In Glass Bottles———> Yes On Tap/Draught ———–>No
More Expensive———> Yes Almost as cheap as bud–>No
I don’t know if that should be the gospel of Stella drinking, but it has worked for me!
Good Sipping!

what was the legal drinking age in illinois in 1978?
Hey Rank,
While I moved from Illinois in 1977, I remember we had a two tiered system in place, at least prior to 1977.
Beer, Wine, Fortified Wine, Hard Liquor, Hard Cider = 21+ years
Near-Beer, Malt Liquors (with less than 10 proof) = 18-21years.
The law was changed in the 1970’s due to the draft for the Vietnam war. People were complaining that if young people were old enough to be drafted into the service, then they were old enough to be able to drink. The Near Beer law was to keep people from complaining.
I wish my memory was clearer. I know at some point there was a discussion about changing the law. I am not sure if that was done anytime around 1978 (I wasn’t old enough for it to be of interest until 1980).
Hope I could help!

How much and how often in consuming alcohol makes you an alcoholic?
Hey ttime,
I have to congratulate the person with the technical description (No name was listed, but someone says that they thought the name was Sparks) — Everything was textbook accurate.
I, however, am a recovering Alcoholic. I don’t get into fights, I don’t miss work, I don’t burn friendships, I rarely drink alone and the list of things that don’t follow the textbook definition, I can say are how I live my life.
That being said, I can finish 750ml by myself, in 1 sitting. So I know I am not a social drinker.
So I have to also go along with Meredith L., as well!
Someone once told me, ” a Non-alcoholic never asks if they are an alcoholic…!”
I have been alcohol free for 13 months. So obviously, how much and how often don’t apply to me. But if I go out, off the wagon, I am told that within a few days to a few weeks, my habits will be back to the point of where I was when I quit drinking…
Pretty, isn’t it?
Live well,
James

Serious answers only. Has anyone used http://www.fakeidcenter.com/fakeids.html?
Hey Kitten,
I don’t know what part of the country or world your are sending your question from, but I will tell you what sucks here in California.
As a Bartender here in California, they have recently changed the laws regarding fake id’s and fines.
If you come in with a fake I.D., and you are caught by the staff:
1). If you are under 21, but over 18, your license will be REVOKED until you reach 21.
2). If you are under 18, ANY person who accompanies you into the licensed establishment can be arrested and charged with leading to the delinquency of a minor. Your license will be revoked until you are 21.
3). The fine starts at $ 750.00 for a first offense.
If I serve you, and you have a fake I.D. Here is what happens to me:
1). I am fined $1000. ! My employer gets a fine of $700 – $2000 depending on if this is the 1st, 2nd or 3rd. If it more than the 3rd. The license of the bar will be revoked and the bar closed.
2). I will be fired! The fine must still be paid by me.
3). If I am serving in a casino or on a ship, I am banned for life from serving alcohol in casino’s or on ships.
If your friend really need to get into bars while underage, why not take him/her down to Mexico, or better yet, bring all your friends to a neutral spot and party with out the fear of losing licenses or getting fined.
Is it that bad to wait a year or two?

laws penalties for underage drinking in north carolina?
Hey Pan,
I am guessing that the 17 year old was stopped by police and administered a Breathalyzer, since you have a B.A.C.reading of .10! If that is the case, there must be a law on the books that they can charge him with or they wouldn’t have brought him down to the station. If the police kept him for more than a few hours (unless they called his parents) then they will probably charge him with some crime.
I looked up the ABC laws in North Carolina and from what I can tell the most that he will get is a fine of about $70-$100. While the site also says that he may get jail time, I doubt it unless this person already has served juvi time for another offense and is still on probation.
The problem that I have is with North Carolina’s Motor Vehicles. Their web site is kinda sketchy, but there is a strong chance that your friend may lose his license until he reaches 18 or 21. The key word here is MAY!
There was also a big blurb on UNC Chapel Hills site that has stated that any minor caught in possession will be required to attend education classes on the dangers of drinking. However, I am not sure if the site was showing proposed text of a law or actual text of a current law (:-s).
Tell your friend to wait patiently, trust me, if they are gonna go after him, they certainly will let him know.
Try waiting to drink until he can proudly throw-up at the ripe legal age! Any conviction that he gets now will just make things harder when he can drink legally! I know! I am currently enrolled in a mandatory 18 month program, must attend AA meetings every other week, pay $1900 for the program, $2500/fine and do 28 days of picking up trash along the roads, in the middle of the summer!
Ask him to wait, please!

When is Fat Tire beer going to be imported into Indiana legally?
Hey Barbara B,
While I’ll give Hank a wink for his 35 years in the business, I’m going to use my far less of 20 years of managing bars and restaurants. I have been here in San Diego (6th largest city in U.S. until last week) for 18 years and we just started seeing Fat Tire here within the last year. When I lived in Chicago, we didn’t see Coors, East of the Mississippi River, until after 1983. The reasons are threefold:
1). Distribution. It takes a great deal of commitment to bring a substantial amount of ANY product to an unknown territory. You have to get proper storage, adequate shipping amenities and a customer service and sales staff in place.
2). Name recognition/Branding. For a brand to work, you have to commit untold amounts of cash to advertising, promotional materials, sales staff and public relations. I’ll give you a for instance; in San Diego, we have a fairly new baseball stadium, it is named PETCO Park. For the rights to name the park, it will cost Petco $68 million over 22 years. They signed this agreement hoping that if you are a baseball fan, you might be watching a game on TV from San Diego and in the back of your mind you’ll be thinking, “Hey, next time Felix needs a new collar, I’ll stop at Petco!”.
3). Feasibility. The East and West coasts of the U.S. are beer whore’s! We will drink anything that we think will make our image look cooler! $15.00 glass of wine, sure! $30.00 cocktail made with organic Guar Dung, Pass it down! But in the mainly beer portion of the U.S. (read: the Midwest) they are fierce about their brands! If you take the 20-30 name brand “Macro” brews in the Midwest, add another 200-300 “Micro” brews, it does not make sense to try to enter that market. (B-T-W, in the U.S. there are more than 575 Micro-Brewers , 85 in Wisconsin/Illinois/Michigan ALONE!). That is why Coors waited so long. They wanted to wait and let their name recognition get around to the middle of the country. It’s kinda like that designer pair of jeans, shoes, sports apparel or a style that is popular in the coasts, eventually, will be desired in the Midwest. It also works in reverse; We can not get Stroh’s or Keystone here on the West Coast.
So just so that you know, if your friend shows up from a stop in Colorado and has two cases of Fat Tire, the cops aren’t going to be knocking on your door, well, unless they are hoping you will share some with them. Legality has nothing to do with the fact that it’s not available in Indiana!
Good Drinking!

Anyone out there love Tgif’s???
Hey Ash!
T.G.I.F.’s is a good place. Food is just OK… Drinks are for amateurs… BUT THEY SHINE WHEN IT COMES TO APPETIZERS!
Deep fried Mushrooms(discontinued), Spinach Dip, Wings, Cheese Quesadilla, the old Sampler and their little Chimichangas!(discontinued), plus they also had the Fridays three and the Jack Daniels rib sampler. They change the menu all the time on the appetizers, and it changes from state to state, but I have never been disappointed in the appetizers!

Bartending school near san diego.?
Hey Mameowx,
Don’t do it! Once you get your certificate, you are given leads… Leads to places like the VFW in El Cajon, or maybe to the Por Favor in Lemon Grove, to work during lunch.. Ooh, or even better lists of many caterer’s here in San Diego that really just need someone to open beers and pour wine.
I have worked in San Diego Bars/Nightclubs for nearly 18 years. I always ask the same question to prospective bartenders; “What’s in a Rum and Coke?”. The correct answer is “Rum & Coke”, however, you would be surprised by the amount of people who actually say “Oh, and a lime, sometimes”…
My reason for the question is that with a decent listing of drinks, you should be able to make any of the basics. You know, things like screwdrivers, Cape Cods, Tequila Sunrises, etc. If you can, start out as a cocktailer or a bar-back. You will get to know how to pour a draught, cut up fruit, clean a glass and properly rotate a bar.
The things that they will not teach you in school are:
a). How to recognize a fight about to happen & diffuse it.
b). How to recognize if someone is under the influence.
c). How to properly cut someone off.
d). How to work someone for a tip without them waiting for you after work for their …favor to be repaid…..
e). What to do in an emergency.
They teach you their methods for making the drinks in their books. In 18 years, I have made only a few Grasshoppers, a couple of Harvey Wallbangers and only 1 Side Car, but I can GUARANTEE you that those drinks will be among those that you will be taught!
DO’S
=======
So save yourself the money, start in a small bar; get a decent book or look on the internet, copy drinks down on index cards,; talk to every bar manager; bartender you know to let them know you are interested; watch how bartenders make drinks; get a good list of jokes; become pashionate about sports; get yourself a selling point; learn how to change a keg; change a soda syrup.
DON’Ts
=======
Go to a bartending school; Buy any book that has the name of an alcohol on it (e.g. Old Mr. Boston’s or Seagrams book of Exotic drinks… If they don’t make the liquor, they won’t list the popular drink (:-s)); Give up hope; Go to a neighborhood where you won’t feel comfortable; work for any dirty old men (like the guy that runs Kahuna’s in P.B., he’s a pig!)
It might take you years or you could get a job in a matter of weeks! I recommend that you try the cocktailing and or bar-back thing as a way to get in the door. Us bartenders are always trying to impress somebody, even if it’s our wait staff or the bar-back. We will teach you without even knowing we are doing it!
Mostly, understand that this is a job that requires you to be on, like an actress or a stage performer. If you are having a bad day, so will your customers and you won’t make squat! Keep in mind that there will always be someone trying to take your job from you, whether it is someone who thinks that they should’ve gotten your job or someone who you had to cut off because they were acting like an a**hole!
It can be fun! It can be trying (remember most bars are open 365/year so don’t plan on being with the folks on Christmas) there are never raises, no benefits, no vacations and no paid holidays. You will run out of friends, since their get togethers are always on the weekends, and if you get to be any good, those are the nights you will be working. Boyfriends will never understand why you have to be “that friendly”! (Oh, Girlfriends too!) Do it with the thought that it is only temporary! And then have fun with it!
Good Luck,
James in San Diego
