how is difficult to find a job in NYC?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Aquatica,

Rent: EXPENSIVE! Like the gal says $800 (Outside) to $1600 (On the Island of Manhattan)

Bus/Subway: Monthly pass (Unless you have student ID) is $130

Food: Cheapest to eat Fast Food! There are fresh markets but they are not cheap.

Wages: Without local experience, you will only make $5.25/hour. The fact that you are only going to live there for 6 months – why hire you? You will compete with every other college student for the same jobs.

Jobs:

Best is Bike Messenger! They are always hiring and the tips are good.

Bartender: EVERYONE bartends!

Waitress: Fine dining, Sorry! Breakfast, possibly.

Dish Wash/Prep: Lot’s of jobs but the work is sweaty and hot.

Sales: If you are good with retail and can wear most fashions, try retail for a boutique! They don’t need to train as much and being Italian, you will have a better eye than most! They may even give you a commission (% based on sales)

Translator: There are many buyers/sellers from Milan and Italy that come to New York for the fashion houses. If your English skills are good enough, offer yourself as a translator.

Hope that this stuff helps!

if you had the money what franchise would you buy ???

Hey Glass,

Well congratulations are in order, I guess. I have read what the others have written. Some I agree with, a little — Most I disagree with due to the fact that your settlement is not an ongoing source of income. Most Franchisers will need you to have a net worth of $XXX.00 before they will even talk with you. If you need further proof of this, just look up information on Steak and Shake — it is the standard information that franchisers require.

Keep several things in mind when you look into a franchise:

1). You must purchase ALL of your product from them. (You may see that boneless chicken breasts are available from Costco at $1.00 per pound — Great Price! But your franchiser sells them to you for $1.95 per pound — Sorry! You signed the agreement!

2). Larger franchisers decide your location – the terms of your lease – the type of P.O.S. system (Cash register) you must buy – the type and size of your signage and your hours.

3). Nearly all of your franchisers will charge you a percentage of your GROSS sales (typically 5-12%) + a percentage/flat fee for advertising.

4). In most cases, if your should not adhere to their terms, then you forfeit your location! NO REFUNDS!

So, if this doesn’t scare you, then go with a smaller, regional franchise. Some smaller ones will only charge you the franchise fee (Flat Rate) and an annual licensing fee. I’ve listed one of my favorites below:

Wings and Things has easy enough recipes, you don’t have to buy everything from them, you can operate out of strip malls, the food is relatively inexpensive and your payroll costs should be low. Your food costs will be manageable (You will probably hire teenage kids — Any venture that involves Ice Cream or other things that teens like — will cost you an arm and a leg!)

A Full service restaurant will kill you with labor and insurance costs. Wings and Things can operate with just 2 people – even when very busy. Wings ‘n Things has a low start-up investment.

If what I wrote about franchises DOES SCARE YOU! Then why not open something under your own idea. I know that you live in Ohio and from the pictures, you’ve got a couple of children — So you can eat! What appeals to you? It doesn’t have to be fancy, you don’t sound like you’re that fancy to begin with. Do you live near a college? What kind of food do college kids like? Cheap and Easy! Do you live in an area that is off an expressway? What is quick and convenient. Midwestern tastes are starting to warm up to authentic Mexican Food — Spend a few hundred $$$ and fly out to California, Arizona, Texas and try some fast Mexican food – It tastes nothing like Taco Bell! You say you are of mixed race — How about something ethnic? I know when ever I get the chance, I love to go to a place here to get me Catfish! It’s expensive, but it’s really good! You’ve got kids and you say your wife is evil. When the kids are hungry and you are married to the devil – don’t you just want a quick and easy place where your kids can be kids and you don’t have to clean. Something like Hot Dogs, Grilled Cheese, Mac-N-Cheese and a few things for the adults! Not expensive, but enough to make money and keep them coming back weekly for more.

Copy what the experts do (just not the words!) McDonald’s made a fortune telling America “You deserve a break today!” They didn’t say “You deserve really nutritious food”! 7-11 doesn’t say “Come and buy from us – you’ll save money” – they sell convenience. Look at ads and flyer’s. Your potential competition has already invested a ton of money doing market research for you! Listen to what your friends say! Especially those that seem to be like you. Remember, you’ll hear 100 things from 100 people… Only one may be worth something! Make note of it though! It might be worth a million!

Believe in You! No one else is going to do it!

Work hard! If your employees see that you don’t care — They won’t care!

Save for a rainy day! You never know when the water heater will break or if something happens to you! Whatever you think you’ll need – DOUBLE IT!

Get Insurance! Keep it up to date! I hear stories about people who had a great business and then a fire happened and it takes them years to finally get back on their feet. (You should know, they don’t call them settlements for nothing!)

Invest the $3.00 in a few notebooks! Write down everything! It sounds stupid but if you ever have a claim, you can go back and read your notes! If you ever decide to franchise for yourself, you’ll already have the information that you need.

Mostly, Good Luck!

How can you tell what sex a fish is?

Hey Helen,

Have you tried “Fish Porno?”

sounds kinda fishy, huh?

I don’t like the clothes and cologne thing – They could be “Gender Confished….”

Have you rolled them in flour and looked for the “Wet Spot?”

Sorry,

Seriously, as a basic rule of thumb, go with the colors/fins. Size is almost entirely based on age. (Unless they’re prego, I mean, with eggs, then, of course, they’ll be bigger). But usually brighter is better as well as the amount of “decorative” fins. But then, many tropicals will toss you for a loop – They both look the same! I would get a book from the library – with the tropicals, every species is different.

My ferrets are fighting!!!?

Hey Angel,

I have three. Two Girls and One Boy. Luckily the boy and one of the girls are only 1 year old – so they do the “Clash of the Titan Ferrets” with each other, mostly. When the older girl (She is 6) gets into the mix, she holds her own but the boy can get kind of mean and focused. I’ve found that this works;

I grab him by the scruff of the neck and hold him against my heart area of my chest. I slowly stroke him while saying, slowly, “No” – After a minute or so, I put him down and he leaves her alone and will either explore on his own or try to pick a fight with the young girl again.

Thankfully, when play time is over and everyone returns to the cage, they all sleep together like nothing ever happened.

( I have been known to cheat sometimes and let “Grandma” out alone for a few minutes just so that she realizes that she still rules the roost and then we can have some private play — It keeps the jealousy down – I think…)

We are lucky aren’t we?

Taxation in India on earnings outside India?

Favorite Answer:

Hello Anil,

Well, I am confused why you are asking about the taxation of your earnings and then bring your savings into the picture. Your tax liability for 2006-07 should be the same as it is now – NET of your moving expenses and any relocation. I know that doesn’t make sense because you will incur the expenses before you make the earnings. An easy way to see around this – explain this to your future employer, ask them to pay the expenses now (So they can deduct the expense in this year and then charge you for them in the next calendar year. This will have the same affect as you declaring them on that years tax report without having to pay them upfront.

Which ever way that works for you, I would still consult a tax adviser who studies individual tax laws for the current and next year for their best advise.

Different tactical reasons to have a marketing campaign?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Life….

I did the many years of studying this and looking at that ant trying to figure out which ad campaign worked and which didn’t…

I then hear Jerry DellaFamina talk about products and businesses!

He is the biggest advertising guru in the USA. So I know that he knows his advertising!

And you know what he says…..?

CREATE A BUZZ!

That’s it! He says don’t worry about advertising, create a buzz and then you’ll know where you need to concentrate your efforts in bringing the product to the people.

So my answer as to reasons to have a marketing campaign? It’s to find out were to place the “buzz”

James
