does anyone know how to make lettuce sweeter?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Deb,

I will agree with the raspberry vinaigrette, but when I would pick my leaf lettuce to late, what I used to do was dissolve sugar into warm water, pour over ice and then place your lettuce leaves with freshly cut bottoms into the sweet water for about 1-2 hours before. Mix with a honey mustard dressing (Yes, it is as easy as equal parts of honey and mustard!), or you can also add it to arugula, that is already bitter/peppery, and it will mix well.

If it is not a leaf lettuce, but a head lettuce, try grilling it. That will bring out the sweetness. (Remember, leave the core in while grilling, it will keep the individual leaves from sticking on the grill.

You can also make the bitter lettuce into a fruit garden salad. Try getting a can of mandarin oranges, or grill-up some halved peaches (not pits, please) Then you can play the sweet and sour flavors against each other.

Even better yet, if you decide to grill up a steak sandwich and you are adding a horseradish mayonaise, those bitter greens will taste so good with the sweetness of the steak and the heat from the horseradish!

How is Jake’s on 4th Avenue Olympia WA as far as a gay fun spot?

Favorite Answer:

Good Evening David D.

First off, you sound like a fun Gay spot!

Jake’s is the only place I can remember, and I remember that Olympias pride parade went either right in front or right down the street. I remember that the clientele was a little heavy on the drag element, but my best suggestion would be that you know that it’s an OK place, and they can direct you to other places in the area. I know that when I was there (about 4 years ago) there seemed to be a few clubs within a couple of blocks, and since there were alot of schools around, that I encountered alot of family (OK, I don’t know if they were family, but they sure were fun in bed… 😀

Good Hunting! And if you ever get down to San Diego — I’d like to see your fun Gay Spot… I mean I’d like to show you some fun Gay spot’s….

This is only going downhill!

Where can you buy sulfite-free wine?

Good Evening,

It’s not going to be easy, but Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods Market are the two places that I know sell SOME sulfite free wines. Also, look into some of the new Frost Wines. I was told that since they stay on the vine longer, that they don’t use the same amount of sulfites to process the wine…

Good Luck!

aaany great dining in southern cali?

Hey Caleb P.,

Could you be more specific about what kind of food and what your price range is. It also would be helpful if you gave us an area of Southern California that you would like to eat at.

Thanks,

James

p.s. I’m kinda confused regarding the previous person’s answers. Some great places are listed and then for some reason: Cheesecake Factory! Olive Garden does a better job then the Cheesecake Factory (And that is not saying much… 🙁 )

Does anyone know why it is illegal to sell Sol beer in Missouri?

Favorite Answer:

Hey Goose,

Like one of your compadres answered, it’s a simple distribution problem. If your favorite supermarket / liquor store carries Corona, Dos XX and Modelo, then they have a distribution agreement with a beer distributor that does not carry Sol. Here in San Diego, Sol is only carried by one distributor, the other brands that they carry are all smaller micro-brews. If I order from the smaller distributor, I have to have a minimum order. If I can’t make the minimum, then I don’t order.

Your best bet is to find a bar that carries 60 beers, they will probably have it. Also, look into bigger Mexican Restaurants, call ahead first, there is a small chance that they may carry Sol.

That being said, I also haven’t seen it advertised here in San Diego, there is a small chance that most distributors have stopped carrying it.

Good Luck
